Seborrheic Keratosis & Pregnancy

Seborrheic keratosis commonly termed as barnacle of old age is a skin condition very common among the old age and middle age individuals. It rare among the young children however they are still at risk of getting the infection. Most individuals panic when they are told that they have seborrheic keratosis not knowing that the infection is harmless. Unlike many other skin conditions seborrheic keratosis does not cause any cancerous infection. It is harmless and painless. The only shortcoming of seborrheic keratosis is that it makes your skin look ugly due to the lesions that appear on your skin and also due to cosmetic reasons.

It is not a must that you get rid of the lesions from your skin if you know they are seborrheic keratosis. In fact it is recommended that you don’t disturb them. However for those who care so much about their public image they consider removing them since it can ruin their self confidence. For pregnant women having the lesions on your skin is not a health risk to your baby. The lesions only affect the skin and won’t have any effects on the growth of the baby while still in the womb even if the lesions are on your stomach. Seborrheic is known to be heredity however this only occurs in rare situations therefore do not panic that your baby may inherit the skin condition.

When you have made your choice to get rid of seborrheic keratosis make sure that you adhere to the recommended procedure for whatever method that you use. If you are not sure of the method that you should use then have a dermatologist help you in deciding the best method that you can use. For pregnant women you should be very cautious of the method that you use, as a matter of fact it is recommended that you have a doctor help you. Some techniques may not be good for the baby depending on where the skin condition is.

To be safe from seborrheic keratosis pregnant women are advised to stay away from the excess sunlight since it is the main cause of seborrheic keratosis. If you have to go out when the sun is at its pick then make sure that you apply sunscreen protector on your skin to be safe. Lastly, as a pregnant woman don’t panic when you have seborrheic keratosis, regardless of where it occurs your baby is safe and you can as well cure the skin condition.
