Seborrheic keratosis is a type of skin infections that causes the skin to have outgrowths that look like bumps. They are usually ugly in appearance and for individuals who are very conscious of their skin and public image will easily detect it at an initial stage. There are many types of skin infection that causes our skin to have bumps therefore one may easily be confused as to whether they are having seborrheic keratosis or other types of skin infections. Before you start any form of treatment or medication never assume it is recommended that you seek first the attention of a dermatologist. A dermatologist will run test on your skin to make sure that it is seborrheic keratosis and not any other skin infection.

The appearance of seborrheic keratosis varies from one individual’s skin to another and also depending on the stage of infection. There is no stated color for seborrheic keratosis since for some individuals they may look lighter while for some it may look darker. For the light skinned individuals it may be noticeable easily while for the dark skin individuals it may not be easy especially at the mild stage of growth. Seborrheic keratosis should not be confused with skin rushes since unlike skin rushes they develop as outgrowths of keratin having a very thin edge.

Seborrheic keratosis or the barnacle of old age may have different forms, they all appear as bumps on the skin however some are rough while some are smooth. The one that causes are a rough surface is very disturbing on the skin and can be irritating if rubbed by a garment. The smooth once look like seed that have grown on a person’s skin and can be very itchy if you pick them. There are those that cause a warty surface and develop with deep pits as if they are being pulled apart.

The goodness with seborrheic keratosis is that they are painless and none irritating however, don’t make a mistake of disturbing them or picking them since they can be very itchy. Due to cosmetic reasons the skin infections or bumps have to be removed since it can be hard having them with your garments on. The best way to know that you have sebborheic keratosis is by analyzing their symptoms however before you start any treatment make sure that you have been checked by a dermatologist.

Many folks panic when they are told that they have seborrheic keratosis. Seborrheic keratosis also popularly known as barnacle of old age is a skin condition that causes lesions to appear on the skin that look rather ugly. It is mostly common to the old age. Seborrheic keratosis affects all types of skin be it light skin or dark skin. For individuals with brown skin you are very susceptible to seborrheic keratosis. The skin condition occurs as a result of excess production of keratin, the excess keratin is then deposited on the surface f the skin forming the lesions.

For people with brown skin the lesions are very conspicuous since the color of the lesions normally ranges from pink, red to grey. At early stage of growth it is very hard to know the presence of the lesions since they are not visible on the normal eye of a human being. With a magnifying glass you can easily see them since they range from a diameter of around 1mm. Seborrheic keratosis grows slowly and when they reach maturity they can reach a size of about 3 mm or even 6 mm. the lesions do not itch or irritate unless they are disturbed. When you pick or rub them they normally turn red and become very itchy.

The lesions appear anywhere on the skin of an individual as long as the part is often exposed to the sun. The most common areas include the arms, hands, neck, the back and the scalp. Brown skin individuals suffer the problem of staying with the skin condition since they look pretty ugly and can destroy someone’s public image. Also depending on where the lesions occur they can be disturbed by our outfits causing them to itch, irritate or even bleed. As much as it is recommended that you leave them alone most brown skin individuals are forced to get rid of the lesions on the skin.

There are therapies that you can take advantage of in getting rid of the seborrheic keratosis on your skin. Make it a habit to do a research on these methods before you apply them since some have their cons which if you are not aware of may cause panic. Some techniques like surgery or freezing may live scars on your skin. The scars can be very ugly at forts however; there are creams that can be used to fade away the scars.

Most individuals freak out when they are told that they have seborrheic keratosis. Some people due to ignorance assume that any lesions that appear on the skin are seborrheic keratosis. Before you make any assumptions it is important that you first understand what seborrheic keratosis is. Seborrheic keratosis is a skin infection that is associated with lesions appearing on the skin of an individual. The lesions appear as small patches during their early stages of growth and after a while they spread to most parts of the skin.

Seborrheic keratosis is associated with the skins direct exposure to the sun. Parts of the skin like the neck are mostly affected since it is never possible to protect these parts from the sun regularly unless you are staying indoors most of the time. For those of us who like sunbathing then use of sunscreen protectors can be very helpful in protecting our necks from the effects of the sun that may result to seborrheic keratosis. If you never knew our necks are also prone to seborrheic keratosis and they can be very ugly since area around the neck is often exposed. The back of the neck is very susceptible to keratosis as opposed to the front.

Curing keratosis is possible; there are medical techniques that can be employed to get rid of the skin infection on the neck. Surgery is not recommended on the neck since it is a very sensitive and dangerous however due to advancement in technologies there are dermatologists who can perform it successfully. Other methods like the use of liquid nitrogen are also not encouraged on the neck since this method kills the tissues where it is applied hence not recommended for areas around the neck and face. There are other techniques like use of lotions and creams that are safer and easy to use.

Use of natural home remedies has been a favorite for most folks due to cost effectiveness and ease. Natural home remedies are recommended to use when the infection is still in its initial stages. Apply the natural home remedies for a while and observe if there are any changes on your skin. If there is no visible change then adopt a new medication or technique. Always brace patients if you want to get rid of the infection, jumping from one medication to another may only make the situation worse.

Seborrheic keratosis commonly termed as barnacle of old age is a skin condition very common among the old age and middle age individuals. It rare among the young children however they are still at risk of getting the infection. Most individuals panic when they are told that they have seborrheic keratosis not knowing that the infection is harmless. Unlike many other skin conditions seborrheic keratosis does not cause any cancerous infection. It is harmless and painless. The only shortcoming of seborrheic keratosis is that it makes your skin look ugly due to the lesions that appear on your skin and also due to cosmetic reasons.

It is not a must that you get rid of the lesions from your skin if you know they are seborrheic keratosis. In fact it is recommended that you don’t disturb them. However for those who care so much about their public image they consider removing them since it can ruin their self confidence. For pregnant women having the lesions on your skin is not a health risk to your baby. The lesions only affect the skin and won’t have any effects on the growth of the baby while still in the womb even if the lesions are on your stomach. Seborrheic is known to be heredity however this only occurs in rare situations therefore do not panic that your baby may inherit the skin condition.

When you have made your choice to get rid of seborrheic keratosis make sure that you adhere to the recommended procedure for whatever method that you use. If you are not sure of the method that you should use then have a dermatologist help you in deciding the best method that you can use. For pregnant women you should be very cautious of the method that you use, as a matter of fact it is recommended that you have a doctor help you. Some techniques may not be good for the baby depending on where the skin condition is.

To be safe from seborrheic keratosis pregnant women are advised to stay away from the excess sunlight since it is the main cause of seborrheic keratosis. If you have to go out when the sun is at its pick then make sure that you apply sunscreen protector on your skin to be safe. Lastly, as a pregnant woman don’t panic when you have seborrheic keratosis, regardless of where it occurs your baby is safe and you can as well cure the skin condition.

Seborrheic keratosis is also known as barnacle of old age. The word seborrheic is derived from the word seborrhea which means the power of oil. At the advanced stages it is recommended that you have a medical treatment since it can be severe or hide other skin infections like cancer.

Using natural home remedies to cure and remove seborrheic keratosis permanently is recommended and most welcomed by many since it is cost effective and easy for anyone.

Seborrheic keratosis also known as barnacle of old age are normally small lesions that appear on the skin of an infected person. They are usually painless and do not cause cancer or any skin infection. Seborrheic keratosis is derived from the word seborrhea which means the pour of oil. In the human skin there are two types of glands, there is the sweat glands and the oil glands. The oil glands secret oily substances which help to keep the skin moisturized while the sweat glands help to remove the excess water and toxins from the body. Seborrheic keratosis normally arises to individuals with dry skin.

So what does seborrheic keratosis look like?

The bumps or rough surfaces that appear on your skin or face may have very different defining characteristics which look almost similar. The appearance of seborrheic keratosis on an individual’s skin depends on the type of skin and the extent of infection. Some seborrheic keratosis on someone’s skin may make the skin have a rough surface. It will look like someone has planted some clay on your skin. The rough surface looks like skin outgrowths that are rather dead. At the edge of the outgrowths they are very thin as to give the impression that they can be removed picking with your fingernails.

There is seborrheic keratosis that is smooth with horn pearls. The skin surface develops bumps that are very smooth and seed like. They are normally lighter or darker than the surrounding tissue depending on the individual’s skin. Sometimes these horn peals are not visible with a naked eye especially the light ones for light skinned individuals; you will need the help of a magnifying glass to see them. Other seborrheic keratosis form warty surfaces, they look almost similar to warts however they do not have infectious viruses which cause other skin infections. As they develop some of them may have rough surfaces while some may have smooth surfaces.

Seborrheic keratosis are never itchy at the mild stages of growth however as they develop they tend to be itchy especially for the older people. If an individual picks on a seborrheic keratosis then they might cause it to irritate since this infections don’t like disturbance. For cosmetic purposes it is always recommended that you get rid of the infection. There are many techniques of getting rid of seborrheic keratosis but first ensure that you have a dermatologist run test on your skin.

Seborrheic keratosis skin condition is believed to be caused by the ultraviolet rays. The ultraviolet rays are known to be very essential for the growth of our bones and as a good source of vitamin D. the same ultraviolet rays is harmful to our skin if in excess. The ultra violet rays cause our skin to develop skin conditions like seborrheic keratosis. It affects people of all ages however old people are more susceptible to the infection. Heredity is also thought to be a cause of seborrheic keratosisbut only in rare occurrences.

Seborrheic keratosis affects the skin area that is regularly exposed to the sun. The hands and arms are the parts of our body that are most often exposed to the sun. Due to the effect of the sun’s rays more keratin is deposited on the surface of the skin to counter the effects of the sun. The excess keratin that is deposited on the arms and hands start to form whirls or circular patterns. This patterns or patches are known as lesions and vary in color from light to dark. Some can be pink, red, grey or grayish black. When the lesions are rubbed they normally turn red and become very itchy and irritating.

It is possible to get rid of the lesions on the skin however there is no known treatment that will remove the lesions from the skin permanently. The best way to get rid of the skin condition is preventing your skin from being exposed to the sun. If a small part of the arm is infected then prevent the other parts from getting infected while you effect treatment promptly. Treatment should be applied in small bits first where you first apply a small part to make sure that the treatment is working and safe for your skin. This is because other treatments cause large scars on the skin which are even uglier than the infection.

When going out to the sun you can wear gloves to cover your hands with long pullovers that cover your arms. You can also apply sunscreen protectors on your arms and hands to protect your skin from the solar radiations. Apply the sunscreen protectors a few minutes before you go out to the sun so that the sunscreen becomes effective on your skin. In conclusion there is treatment for seborrheic keratosis out there however without prevention you will be doing nothing.
