What are seborrheic Keratosis? They are skin lesions that are a result of the unlimited growth of the keratin. Keratin is a tough and fibrous protein material that forms the structural component of the outer skin. Due to unlimited growth the keratin may be deposited in the outer surface of the skin as lesions. The main cause of unlimited growth of keratin is solar radiation since long contact of the skin with the sun’s rays cause the skin to produce more keratin to counter the effect of the sun rays. Heredity is also thought to be a cause of the infection since some individuals are just born producing more keratin than normal.

Seborrheic keratosis as much as it may be heredity is not a harmful infection. It is curable if you don’t want to stay with them or live them since some types of keratosis are known to fade away on their own. Not all types of keratosis are hereditable; there are some which are mainly caused by the skins direct exposure to the sun’s rays. There are other types of seborrheic keratosis which are only hereditable and cannot be found in generations which do not have a gene for the infection.

When you are experiencing such kind of skin infection make sure that you have a dermatologist run test on your skin to make sure that you have keratosis and to examine which type of keratosis you have. If there were individuals in your lineage who were experiencing recurring skin infection like keratosis then the dermatologist will advise you on the precaution measure that you will take. Keep in mind that this infection is harmless and painless. Also the color of seborrheic keratosis varies especially between different skins therefore don’t go comparing the lesions with other individuals.

There are many methods that can be employed to get rid of the infection. The best time to treat the infection is when it is in its initial stages of growth since the infection is still mild. At this stage you can use the home remedies to cure the infection. At an advanced stage it is somehow challenging since medical techniques is the most preferred which can be somehow costly. In summary some types of seborrheic keratosis is hereditary and can be passed on from one generation to another but not all since the main cause of seborrheic keratosis is the sun’s rays.
